Comments

With an improving forecast, we left port at 0500 this morning. The intention was to trek south until sunrise when the intention was to deploy the first sonobuoy of the day. Soon after the first sonobuoy was deployed, blue whale calls were detected. Calls continued to be heard throughout the day until finally after several hours of sighting only common dolphins, a spread group of upto 10 blue whales were finally, visually detected. The team observed and photographed the group for around three hours before leaving to head east in search of other pods.In total four sonobuoys were deployed with one failing. Weather permitting, we hope to deploy the acoustic mooring tomorrow, leaving it in situ for the remainder of the voyage.
