Comments

Through most of last night we drifted a couple of miles from a deployed sonobuoy so we could record sounds for many hours. Sadly on review in the morning there were no whales to be heard.
We then headed towards the western edge of the study area (SE of Robe) and deployed another sonobuoy and then began our easterly track back towards Portland. We have yet to hear blue whales but our aerial team led by Pete Gill reported three blue whales 20nm ESE of Portland. It will take over ten hours to reach this location from where we are now but we’ll listen for whales all the way so hopefully we won’t go past them during the night.
It’s still a wobbly ride aboard Eastern Voyager and a few of us remain somewhat delicate but all are more active and chipper than yesterday.

REGARDS: Mike
