Comments

Yesterday we spent the whole day at the wharf. The forecast remains unfriendly so we used the time to complete briefings on fatigue management, UV policy, drugs and alcohol policy, manual handling, and the JHA on small boats work (biopsy and tagging operations).

Midday we completed a walk-through muster drill. Over the next few days we will have a surprise muster drill.

In the afternoon we all visited Pete Gill (our aerial survey leader) to discuss survey plans but also to introduce our French colleague to koalas – a family of powerful owls was also an unexpected bonus for a whale voyage!

This morning we left port at 07:30 to use a weather window to practice small boat launch and retrieval and passenger transfers. All went very well. On return to port at 10:20 we conducted a debrief and have made some minor modifications to our small boat launch and retrieval procedure and associated JHA.
Later today we will conduct briefings on the science plan and on data collection and management. We will also rig a higher receiver for the sonobuoys.

The forecast remains poor so it is unlikely we will leave port until late Wednesday or early Thursday.

REGARDS: Mike
