Comments

A weather window has opened for the resupply operation at Macquarie Island, allowing the ship to anchor this morning in Buckles Bay, on the eastern side of the isthmus where the Macquarie Island station is located. IRB passenger transfers were again performed for round trip projects this morning along with some expeditioners taken to shore via helicopter.

Helicopter cargo operations from the Aurora Australis to shore commenced again this morning with helicopters kept busy until lunchtime when watercraft cargo operations resumed so the helicopters could use the fine weather to resupply the islands field huts. Island field huts are used as accommodation during science programs, the continuing MIPEP program and as refuges in bad weather when expeditioners are away from station working down the island.

Round trip field parties are beginning to return to station from walking trips down the island, successful sampling and return to ships aquarium laboratory of marine invertebrates from the round trip science program continues. All ingoing wintering expeditioners are now ashore.

REGARDS: Don, Simon and Brett
