Comments

It has been a busy 24 hours on passage during which time we have crossed the Antarctic Convergence, had a very successful Charity Auction, a great pizza night and an emergency muster drill. Passing through the convergence zone has placed us above the Antarctic circle in the Southern Ocean, where sea temperatures are now consistently above 0 degrees Celsius and slowly climbing. Where decks were icy or covered in snow, they are now just wet. As we came north yesterday the icebergs took on a more weathered appearance with many strikingly different but beautiful erosion patterns as they melted. We are now some 1500nm due south of Cape Leeuwin, the most south westerly part of the Australian mainland and we are on Western Standard time (Hobart + 3 hours). Last night's pizza feast and charity auction went off extremely well, with expeditioners and ship's crew digging deep to raised almost $9,000 for Camp Quality. Among the donated prizes which went for the most money (in the thousands) were a weekend for two at the Anare ski club lodge at Mt Baw Baw, and a month's summer accommodation at Chunky's French Chalet home. This morning things took on a more ordered appearance with the usual Saturday morning muster drill. It was just as well the Officer of the Watch made a preparatory 'bing bong' call 30 minutes prior to wake most of us up.

Andy, Sharon and Chris
