Resupply Day 5 - The end is in sight!
Yesterday following a busy day of cargo operations we managed to complete 98% of discharge and commence loading the priority RTA cargo. This has continued this morning and by early afternoon we will have completed 80% of the required backload. The Mawson 2011/12 wintering party completed their handovers formally last night with speeches and the awarding of winterer's medallions at the station. Today those not directly involved with completing resupply tasks (such as driving plant to move containers or acting as dogmen for the crane ashore) are embarking the ship in preparation for departure. All will be aboard this evening. With a deteriorating weather forecast in hand the decision has been taken to move the ship out of Horseshoe harbour and into Kista Strait later this afternoon. The plan is to complete the last of the cargo operations before lunch tomorrow and all things being equal we will be commencing passage to Hobart.
