Comments

We have completed another four CTD casts, at three sites, in the last 24 hours. We are now in the deep basin between Australia and the mid-ocean ridge and the depth is slowly increasing to the north. The sea floor is 4800 m below the sea surface here; our deepest station will be deeper than 5600 m. The deep stations take a bit longer to complete so our northward progress is a little slower. The weather continues to be kind to us. With the air temperature above 14C, the photographers on deck have changed their uniform from freezer suits and beanies to shorts and T-shirts. The final XBT test station is currently underway and we will do the final CTD cast dedicated to the genomics work in the next day or two.

Regards, Steve and Barbara
