Comments

We’ve continued to make good progress overnight, completing another four stations in the last 24 hours. We also carried out a special ‘yo-yo’ CTD cast for calibration of the expendable bathythermographs (XBTs). The CTD was lowered and raised several times through the upper 900 m and while XBTs were launched concurrently. By making sure the profiles are taken at the same time, we can ensure the comparison can be used to identify subtle biases in the temperature and depth measurements of the XBT. The swell is forecast to start increasing tomorrow, peaking on Saturday, so this may slow us down over the weekend. We’ll find out soon.

Regards, Steve and Barbara
