Comments
The winds increased to over 40 knots on the back side of the low pressure system and, combined with a steep confused swell, kept us from completing any further sampling (or sleep) overnight. The winds have been light for most of the trip so far, so the ‘lively’ motion of the ship last night gave some on board their first taste of what life on the Southern Ocean can be like. The winds eased off in the early morning. We hope to resume the oceanographic work soon, now that the weather is cooperating again.
Regards, Steve and Barbara
