The weather cooperated enough today to complete all the helicopter operations, including the retrieval of four passengers and all cargo from Commonwealth Bay and the transfer of 16 passengers and their baggage to the French station Dumont d’Urville. From there, the 16 who have left the ship will take various routes home: some by plane to the US base at McMurdo and a flight to New Zealand; some for a flight to Casey ; and a few returning on the French vessel l’Astrolabe. Many thanks to all the crew and expeditioners who made a big effort to ensure all the flight operations went smoothly and efficiently. Once the helicopters are stowed and secured, we will be on our way west to begin the marine science work along a transect from Casey to Fremantle.
