Comments

Conditions on the Southern Ocean are quite pleasant at the moment with the seas easing, overcast skies and the occasional passing snow shower as we continue our way to Casey. Resupply preparations continue with a phone hook up between the ship and Casey Station today to discuss and confirm various aspects of the resupply operation. The first hint we are getting close to Antarctica came today, with the sighting of an iceberg on the ship’s radar. This has sparked the Iceberg Observation team into action, commencing their roster first thing in the morning to start looking for and documenting any icebergs that are within a 6nm radius of the ship. At 0400 this morning the second successful CPR was retrieved and the third unit was deployed. Depending on where we start to encounter ice will determine how many units we will deploy this voyage. Historically on a voyage to Casey from Hobart four CPRs are usually deployed. Dessert of the day: Roger’s Birthday Cake. REGARDS: Sharon, Fred and Jill
