King Neptune and his helpers arrived yesterday from the salty depths to anoint the first time sea travellers crossing the 60 deg South line. It was a busy ceremony with 43 travellers now holding a certificate dubbing them as “South Polar Sea Dogs”. After King Neptune slipped back into the murky depths, everyone enjoyed a BBQ on the trawl with a spectacular back drop.
With cold temperatures the BBQ was a perfect way for everyone to try out their new “Antarctic Clothing”.
A loud rendition of happy birthday broke the Antarctic silence after a large birthday cake prepared by the galley was presented to celebrate the combined birthdays of four people - three who have already celebrated during this voyage and a fourth who will be celebrating on Sunday.
The minus -8 degree temperatures this morning for our muster on the heli-deck, had all on board appreciating their warm clothing issued to them prior to departing for Antarctica.
