Last night just before 8pm ice was spotted along the horizon. The decision was made to remove the CPR and not deploy it again. About 20minutes later it was confirmed this was the right decision as we entered a band of pack ice. Currently the sun is shining and we are travelling through close pack first year pancake ice – beautiful day.
While the CPR was being retrieved, Tui had a packed house captivated by her story of growing up in the Galapogas Islands.
The bridge and the decks are a buzz with everyone excited to see the ice, wildlife and the chance to try out their new cameras. Adelie penguins, crabeater seals and a pod of minke whales have been sighted today.
Dave has done a great job organising a Sweep for the Melbourne Cup and tonight after dinner we will be able to listen to a recording of the race thanks to our comms team.
REGARDS: Sharon and Leanne
