Comments

We are making good time towards Hobart. King Neptune visited the ship this afternoon and welcomed new-comers to his watery realm south of 60S. Tonight there is a Sea Creatures fancy dress party, to celebrate the completion of the scientific work, Australia Day, several birthdays, and all the other special occasions that largely passed without notice during the last month of continuous round-the-clock operations. Various bits and pieces around the ship have disappeared, destined to reappear this evening as bits of diatoms, penguins, sharks and other creatures of the deep. Work still continues around the ship and in the labs, running final samples, collecting the last water samples from the underway line, packing up gear and writing final reports. The weather is supposed to come up a bit in the next few days, but should not be so bad as to slow down our return trip too much.

REGARDS: Steve, Fred and Penny
