After a busy night for the night shift, with 6 shallow stations completed, we pulled into the lee of an iceberg for a BBQ on the trawl deck. Everyone’s been working hard and it was a good time for a small break. The blowing snow, strong winds and spectacular iceberg off our bow provided a suitably Antarctic setting. The large group of people dressed in overstuffed yellow and black down jackets made it look like the trawl deck had been invaded by a swarm of bees. The first penguins and snow petrels have been sighted, so we must be getting close to Antarctica. We are presently carrying out a bathymetry and ADCP survey across the line of the three moorings we will deploy early on Sunday morning.
