Comments

We are on station at the second last of the sites on the transect between Tasmania and Antarctica. We are looking forward to finishing off this first major section of the voyage. Now that we are back in shallower water, the camera has been installed on the CTD frame for the first time. It seems to be working well, with the first images from 1400 m depth showing a muddy bottom inhabited by five-armed brittle stars and some sponges. After we complete this transect we will head to the east, doing more camera work. Our miracle run with the weather is forecast to end later tonight, with 40 knots of wind and heavy snow on the way.

REGARDS: Steve, Fred and Penny
