Comments

We continue to make good progress, with another four CTD stations in the bag. We also completed the fourth net haul. We are still in the vicinity of the Subantarctic Front. During the last CTD cast, we were set to the north by currents of about 1.5 knots, unusually strong for this part of the ocean. Our speed over the ground to the next station has also been slowed by the strong current to the north. The weather continues to be remarkably good and the forecast promises more of the same for a few days. The big news yesterday was meeting up with a solo round-the-world yachtsman. It is usually a pretty empty ocean down here, at least in terms of human life, so looking out the CTD door and seeing a sail was a new experience.

REGARDS: Steve, Fred and Penny
