Lots of tired troops emerged for the 10:30 muster after a huge day
yesterday.
We weighed anchor last night after putting to bed the four AS350
helicopters at 20:30 last night, having just completed the equivalent of
a full Macca resupply in just two short days.
50 tons of Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service (PWS) board walk material
was delivered to seven separate field locations and the station by
AS350-B2 helicopters and Light Amphibious Resupply Cargo (LARC). An
additional 40 cage pallets of assorted cargo was similarly moved to the
station.
40 cage pallets, two huge marine buoys which had washed up on the
beaches of Macquarie Island, a two ton Skidsteer (bulldozer), a massive
autoclave, a cement mixer, 6 pallets of flat packed bait pods, 5 bait
buckets, 67 empty fuel drums and a LARC were all loaded aboard the ship
to be returned to Australia.
Round trippers ashore completed their objectives including the hunting
parties exploring the island, scientists performing experiments and
engineers testing fuel tanks. A carefully coordinated and executed ship
shore operation ensured 47 passengers were flown to the ship by
helicopter in the last hour of daylight.
We are celebrating with a quite drink in the the bar this evening as we
steam for home, both engines running, full speed ahead, with the
intention of arriving alongside Macquarie No. 3 Wharf, Hobart on Wednesday morning at 1000hrs.
Cheers
Chunky, Beechy, Leanne.
