By 6pm Saturday night all the Sandy Bay boardwalk materials had been
discharged from the Aurora Australis and located on site by our busy B2
helicopter pilots. A significant portion of the Razorback material had
also been located either on site or on station. During the discharge
operations conducted by both LARC and B2 helicopters a significant
portion of RTA cargo including the skidsteer and the autoclave had also
been back loaded to the ship.
The LARC’ies and those round tripping passengers not in the MIPEP
hunting team spent the night on station. Most members of the hunting
team walked to a field hut at either Green Gorge, Bauer Bay or Brothers
Point, familiarising themselves with the island, in anticipation of
their return for the hunting phase of the eradication project now
planned to commence in 2011.
While the long lengths of boardwalk material are challenging in terms of
cargo handling the crew has continued to demonstrate their
professionalism and commitment this morning discharging the remaining
Razorback material and much of the station material leaving about 10
LARC loads of station boardwalk timber which it is hoped will be
discharged today.
Cheers
Chunky, Beechy, Leanne.
