Our day started with a dawn service of remembrance on the helicopter deck as light sleet fell and the peaks of the island were dusted in snow. Conditions were difficult for the whole day with varying winds from 30 knots down to 10 knots and a building onshore swell. First up we sent some people ashore to work by IRB and LARC through the surf. The ship’s crew did an amazing job all day to get cargo off the ship to LARCs and then along with the helicopter crews they managed to get all 4 of our aircraft ashore. By the afternoon the swell was too much for boating operations and we managed a few essential cargo loads by helicopter before finishing for the day. We also managed to get to Hurd Point and Green Gorge with helicopters and shore based teams to prepare for the delivery of bait to these depots in the coming days.
