Easter greetings from the Aurora Australis. The wind built last night so that by morning we had hurricane force wind gusts up to 76 knots and mean speeds around 50-55 knots as a low passed over the island. The wind whipped up a rough and foam streaked sea that made us glad to be in the lee of the island and onboard a nice, large and warm ship. Luckily the ship had been visited by the Easter Bunny during the night (Many thanks to the Bunny!). Needless to say there have been no ship shore operations today but much consumption of Easter eggs. The folks on the island have been able to start the changeover and handover to the new team while projects also delivered ashore yesterday looking at vegetation, geomorphology, albatross and atmospheric conditions were able to start work in the field or on the station. Our ABC media team onboard have been busy filming and putting together a news story that was beamed back to Australia today, so for those at home have a look and see if it screens on your local news. We hope to be able to get the helicopters and/or some cargo ashore tomorrow.

REGARDS: Robb, Leanne and Martin
