A great day at Casey yesterday, with all operations completed in 9.5 hours, from the first shovel of snow off the helideck, to packing up the choppers, and anchor aweigh. If that's not some kind of record, I think we'll claim it as one anyway! Terrific job by everyone involved, from the folks at Casey being organised and ready to go, to the ship and helicopter crews working hard throughout the cold day to maximise our chance at getting the job done. We had as good a run back out through the ice as we did coming in, and this morning we emerged from the "protection" of the ice into the swell of the southern ocean. The ship is pitching heavily, and moving uncomfortably. Not good for many of us, with quite a few people keeping a very low profile today. There is a moderate build-up of ice on the deck, with spray freezing as it hits the cold steel structure. Temperature is rising since 0600 low of -10, and the wind speed is easing.
