Yesterday we crossed the Antarctic convergence. As a result the sea
temperature has dropped from 9 degrees to 4.7, and the air temperature
has dropped from 10 degrees to just over 4 degrees. We are now ever more
likely to encounter icebergs and so the expeditioners have organised an
iceberg sweep to raise money for Camp Quality.
We are still towing the Continuous Plankton Recorder which requires
changing every 450 nautical miles and dropping Argo floats over the side
at pre determined latitudes.
We are about to alter course to a more southerly direction to continue
trying to get below a low which promises to bring 50 knot (92km/h)
winds, making the seas quite lumpy and uncomfortable. We'll try to sneak
below this low before turning right for Davis.
Cheers
Andy, Margaret, Kate.
