Last night New Year was celebrated with a dress up party, which was received with fair enthusiasm, judging by the number of fantastic looking D.I.Y. outfits present. Super heroes, cute mice, Mexicans, and even a leper (with a mask made out of cornflakes!) turned up with their sense of humour: since most of the allocated beer ran out by 22:00, chef Bob loudly shouted: ‘Happy New Year’ which left everyone in the bar a bit perplex but when he continued with: ‘ ......... in New Zealand!!’, the entire crowd burst out laughing and the party continued on until midnight.
Many enjoyed the complete darkness of the night to grab a good sleep afterwards. The early morning risers saw the first sights of Tasmanian land in blustery winds with the isolated rocks of Pedra Branca majestically standing out like black icebergs. The Aurora Australis is now cruising up in Storm Bay. The outer decks are crowded with those enjoying the sights of Bruny Island in soothing summer temperatures.
