Another glorious day today with the temperature a balmy 4 degrees Celsius and light winds. We seized the opportunity to conduct more flying operations for the sea-ice research program. The acoustics team was deployed on the ice for most of the day, and then an airborne laser triangular survey was also undertaken. In between helicopter operations, expeditioners were out on deck soaking up the sunshine and admiring the glittering ice-scape. A lone Emperor penguin was seen this afternoon, drawing the attention of most on board. The wildlife has been remarkably scarce since we entered the ice. On the Social front, the epic shanghai darts competition continues. For many in the first rounds just closing the game out has been a battle and more than a couple of victories have been by concession as lunch or dinner beckons! Tomorrow evening, we look forward to our special occasion barbecue, and are hoping the weather will still permit it to be held outside on the trawl deck.
