The sunny breaks yesterday were brief and today we returned to overcast conditions again as we continue heading west skirting the ice-edge. The camera activity has increased on the bridge, and the Master braved the cold yesterday to chip the ice off the windscreen wipers for a better view, whilst the 3rd mate ensured he copped a bit of a spray for his troubles! The Social Committee keep building upon their successes. There was Halloween on Sunday that saw the galley decorated in style including putting large plastic, but very realistic, spiders in the fruit bowls. A Shanghai Darts Competition has started up, and a sweep is being run for Melbourne Cup today. The talks program continues to be broad-ranging from what life is like on Willis Island in the tropics, to topics more closer to home right now such as Antarctic physics, and Antarctic seabirds. Helicopter briefings for all expeditioners were held yesterday, and further planning and studying satellite images of the sea-ice is being undertaken in preparation for our entering the pack-ice.
