Yesterday we woke to a foggy morning and not may many whales. By lunchtime we were closer to the eastern side of Sturge Island and both the weather and number of whales sighted improved. Beluga and Remora were both launched and during the afternoon 4 satellite tags were deployed and 5 biopsies were taken, which was productive end to a successful RIB scientific program.
Whale and seabird observations will continue for the trip home. We completed operations by tea time and began our transit to Wellington. Today the ocean conditions are from the West which means the seas are side onto the ship and more than likely will be for the transit home, as our heading is pretty much due North. It will probably be a quiet-ish day on board today with the main goal being to stand up straight and try and stay close to your meal at meal times as your chair slides away from the table.
