We have spent the last day sheltering in the lee of Sturge Island hiding from the weather. We have been steaming up and down the same track, with the limit of our track being determined by the wind and swell. Late yesterday afternoon we experienced a gust of wind that was 83 knots and during the night the Tangaroa experienced very rough conditions with winds gusting in excess of 60 knots and continuous snow falls until the early morning. Around breakfast time today, the sun broke through but we are still 'treading water' in the same position due to the weather. The weather is slowly improving though and hopefully by tomorrow morning we will be in a position to do some more whale work.
