Yesterday saw both Remora and Beluga deployed with both RIBs working humpback and fin whales in very good conditions. A total of 3 satellite tags were deployed and 12 biopsies were taken, including a biopsy of a fin whale as we encountered numerous fin whales in the late afternoon. Remora's crew yesterday included the voyage's film maker who had the opportunity to shoot some amazing footage. The bridge was a busy place with whale sightings a plenty and the Tangaroa crew were keenly involved in conducting observations from the bridge, their support was greatly appreciated. The weather forecast for the next couple of days is not looking so good and we are currently heading back to the western side of Sturge Island in the Balleny Group to seek some shelter in the lee of the island. Another krill survey was conducted last night by the Tangaroa and the seabird species count is still at 45.
