Well, all the talk of FOG yesterday worked and it lifted by mid morning to allow a humpback to be tagged and a biopsy taken. Conditions on the water were challenging for the scientists to work but within the operating parameters set. It was a tough day on the water with the short swell, especially when Remora was working the whales into the wind. We headed to Sturge Island late in the day to seek some more sheltered water in the lee of the island, with Remora nearly being re-launched after tea but the whales sighted were pretty good at this game of 'hide and seek'. Last night the sun made a brief appearance and conditions early this morning are slightly better with Remora being launched in pursuit of another whale. The general plan today is to work to the east of the Balleny Islands following the tracks recorded from the satellite tags deployed on the humpback whales early in the voyage.
