Yesterday saw a transit day with deteriorating sea conditions and strengthening winds as the day progressed. Seabird and whale observations continued though the conditions were not ideal for even those activities, but we did sight a sperm whale. Lots of cool marine icebergs were passed yesterday, with the highlight being a 28 x 18 mile iceberg. We had to deviate around it last evening. We are currently heading west til about lunch time today (65S 152E), then we will turn S towards the ice edge again and follow the ice edge roughly SE back under the Balleny Islands. We are searching for more whales along the sea ice edge and will end up back at whale central around the Balleny Islands. Regards Hully, Sarah and Nick
