Comments

We are currently heading towards the southern tip of Young Island in the
Balleny group of islands and are looking for some shelter from the seas
behind the island. The seas this morning turned the mess (where we eat) into
a 'mess' and to quote the chief cook "there won't be anything with a sauce
for lunch". Yesterday, we attempted to work three times but due to the whale
species sighted (1 unidentified large baleen, 2 fin and 1 sperm whale) and
their behaviour, no scientific whale work was completed. Beluga (RIB) and
it's scientific team were in standby mode all day and got to the launch
phase on each occasion but were stood down. We are currently surveying all
personnel on board to find out who broke the mirror. Hopefully, when we get
to the Balleny Islands our luck will change as this is a known humpback
feeding area and our scientific endeavours will be rewarded. Regards Hully, Sarah and Nick
