Comments

Heaps of minke whales sighted yesterday as well as a few killer whales. The weather is still under the influence of a big low pressure system with winds preventing RIB operations. On the positive side, the conditions have allowed for a good presence/absence survey of the area around Iselin Bank and identified some areas to re-visit when the winds are more favourable. The bridge is over run with observers along with the two Paul’s (Sagar and Ensor), who have about 80 years of experience between them (which we celebrated with cake last night) in the Antarctic and the southern ocean conducting scientific work. It is a pleasure to have them as part of the scientific team. PS - we also have a heap of other very experienced and specialist scientists and crew on board as well eagerly awaiting to the opportunity to launch the RIBs. Personal emails into the ship are working again. Regards Hully, Sarah and Nick
