Comments

It was a busy day again aboard the RV Tangaroa. Scientifically ARGO floats, MET buoys and sono-buoys were deployed; 33 species of sea birds have been observed from the bridge with 5 hourglass dolphins being highlight and 1 unidentified whale. Emergency fire drills were conducted with expeditioners practicing the use of fire extinguishers and the crew tested the water curtain and foam systems, in the event of a fire on the fantail (back of ship) where approximately 5000 litres of unleaded petrol is stored for the use on the RIBs. Last night we past 60 degrees South and an appropriate ceremony will be held soon. On the IT front, the ship’s general email system is still down but the IT technicians are slowly finding a way around this and hopefully it will be back to normal soon.

Regards Hully, Sarah and Nick
