Sea conditions began to deteriorate late yesterday morning with most
expeditioners still attending meals but there was little activity aboard
the ship in between meals, with the preferred option being horizontal
rather then vertical. Moving around the ship requires caution, however,
the Tangaroa crew and scientists continue their work. Met buoys were
deployed at 50 and 51 degrees south and Argo Floats were deployed at 50,
50 30, 51 and 52 degrees south. The second run of the CPR is still out and
whale and sea bird observations continue despite the ocean spray making
viewing a little difficult. At one point yesterday, the crew were out
cleaning the windows. Apart from that, it was a quite day aboard and
typing this SITREP is being done with one hand while the other holds the
desk to stop my chair from sliding across the cabin. That’s enough for
today. Regards Hully, Sarah and Nick
