A busy day aboard the Tangaroa yesterday scientifically with water samples
being taken; the active acoustics being fine tuned and underway; sonobuoys
being deployed; two met buoys deployed at 45 and 47 South; the first run
of the CPR completed and run number two underway; 24 seabird species
identified; and confirmed sightings of Minke and Sei whales.
Operationally, we conducted a de-brief of the launch and retrieval
training of the two Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIBs) named Remora and Beluga,
that we had conducted in Wellington Harbour with the ship’s crew prior to
departure. Finally, training of the RIB Re-fuelling operation and a full
risk assessment of the process was conducted with the ship’s crew. Also we
passed the 180 degree parallel last night.
On a personal note, the cheese cake yesterday at lunch time was
sensational and Sarah says “hi Mum and Dad”.
