Yesterday strong winds and low cloud stopped us from discharging any
cargo by helicopter at Green Gorge. We spent most of the day waiting in
the hope that winds would drop. By 1500 we decided to head up to the
isthmus and Macquarie Island station, to attempt to bring the refuel
coordinator and his team across, in case conditions improved enough the
following day to allow us to refuel. At 1600 the winds rapidly dropped
off and calmer conditions prevailed. We used a combination of inflatable
rubber boat's (IRB's) and a light amphibious resupply craft (LARC) to
shuffle passengers through the shore break and to the ship.
The anchor was set by 0830 this morning and before the sun rose IRB's
were alongside with the rope to tow the fuel line ashore. By 1045 fuel
started flowing ashore. We are currently pumping SAB diesel fuel ashore
as fast as we are allowed. Meanwhile Macquarie Island Pest Erradication
Team members are ashore training. Because of the fog it has not been
possible to fly today but the First LARC load of bait pods has just left
the ship.
Cheers
Andy and Graeme
