They always say, 'no pain, no gain', and that has been the story so
far this voyage! We have all experienced a certain degree of pain from being
bounced between bulkheads for the first six days of our passage across the
Southern Ocean. Now we have 'gained' the pleasure of steaming through a
relatively calm sea, with sunshine intermittently breaking through the
clouds. Birds have started to appear, although not in any great numbers and
a whale blow was sighted this morning. So all in all things are looking up.

No further icebergs sighted since yesterday morning, and the water
temperature remains relatively high, meaning we have yet to cross over the
convergence. The next line of note on the chart is 60 South, which we will
cross sometime tomorrow.

Clocks were again retarded one hour at midnight, meaning we are now on
UTC+8, being three hours behind Australian Eastern Daylight Savings Time.
The extra hour during the night is a bonus, but then you counter this with
the fact that on the way home it means an hour less....

Preparations for our arrival at Davis have begun, with a number of meetings
held during the day to go over how we intend to operate our watercraft as
well as a review of cargo and priorities. We only have a limited amount of
time at Davis and need to achieve quite a bit before we pack up and head off
to resupply Mawson, the main objective of this voyage.

Due to the popularity of the fruit buns mentioned over the past two days,
the catering team has had to double the amount baked to keep up with demand.
In addition, the dates have been pitted in preparation for inclusion in
Kyle's world famous Sticky Date Pudding, which will hit the servery tonight.
Much gym work has been undertaken and meals missed in anticipation!

Regards

Rob, Simon and George.
