Finally a little respite was had last night from the beating
received over the past four days. The seas seemed to ease a little meaning
that the fight to stay in your bunk wasn't as brutal. As a result, a lot
more people have been out and about today. The sun is also shining
intermittently between passing rain and sleet squalls, which has also been a
pleasant change.

The swells have continued to hover around the 4-6m mark most of the morning,
making movement around the ship a lot easier. But more people up and about
and actually eating means more of a fight for the fruit buns, which are in
limited supply!

A big highlight today was the weekly emergency muster drill, where we
finally got everybody together out on the helideck to exercise responses to
the unlikely event of an incident happening on the ship. It also gives
everybody a chance to check out their individual clothing kits to ensure
that they have all the necessary gear ready to go if the emergency signal
sounds. We certainly needed the warm clothing on as, with wind chill, the
temperature was around the -2 mark on the helideck.

After the drill, the third iceberg of the trip appeared, which ensured that
the cameras got a good workout as it passed down the ship's starboard size.
Speaking of photo opportunities wildlife has been particularly sparse so far
this trip, but hopefully this should improve a little over the coming days
as we draw closer to the continent.

This morning we passed over the line on the chart that delineates the
Antarctic Convergence. But the water temperature remains above 5 degrees,
signifying that we are yet to reach the actual point where the warmer waters
of the lower latitudes meet the cooler Antarctic waters.

All aboard enjoying the 'calmer' conditions and brushing up on their general
knowledge in preparation for tomorrow night's 'Trivia Night'.

Regards

Rob, Simon and George.
