Comments

Plan A continues. It’s very slow going out here. Since 0600 we’ve made 2.3 nm in very heavy ice. Every now and then we have a win and surge forward a couple of ship lengths, but otherwise it’s a case of perseverance on the part of our ice pilots, patiently chipping away at the floes in our path (if “chipping” is the right word to use when your tool is a ~8500 tonne icebreaker). It’s frustrating work, and frustrating too for the Marine Scientists on board who are itching to get to Bruce Rise and commence their work.

The morning cloud has cleared and it’s another very bright, sunny day. Some consolation at least, as we try and be “Zen” about our glacially slow progress...

Regards, Doug, Aaron & Margaret
