Set off from Casey yesterday late in the afternoon. We then all scrubbed up and put on our Christmas best, and headed to the restaurant where our wonderful galley crew had prepared the best Christmas spread we’d ever seen. Seafood, cold cuts, salads, a wonderful selection of desserts and nibbles. We had a feast! To top it off, our track took us through the Petersen Bank, a shallow area where huge icebergs drag their keels and become grounded. The evening light broke through the cloud, and we had a real show, with a lot of us out and about with our cameras, or just gazing out the windows at the remarkable view.

We’re now making very slow progress (6 nm in the last 9 hours) through the band of heavy ice that if common north of Casey, trying to break through to open water before turning more to the west and heading for Bruce Rise. All onboard well and happy after a bit of a sleep in after our Christmas festivities...

Regards, Doug, Aaron & Margaret
