The WHOI team (aka Team America) and crew have just deployed the first mooring in 4230m water depth. We arrived on station at 0830 and went in search of slightly deeper water, before commencing with float and line deployment. Conditions on the deck were sheltered, with light snow falling, but after a few hours it was getting pretty cool out there. We’ll now head south to our next station, and hope to get that started in the next few hours. We’re still about 130 nm north of the pack ice, but a few bergs about in the vicinity of the ship today. A few interested birds tagged along with us this morning, including our first snow petrel for the voyage, and some cape petrels too. A big snow storm last night, with huge snowflakes that amazed all who witnessed it. Regards, Doug, Aaron & Margaret
