Our first iceberg this morning at 0929 this morning, with lots of folks up and about to witness their first ‘berg. At 200m long, it wasn’t the biggest berg on the planet, but it was still a great sight to see, and marks our passage into Antarctic waters at last. We completed RMT7 yesterday afternoon, and it was a good haul of pteropods for the ACE CRC team. The second CPR was deployed on completion of RMT7, and that CPR run will finish at 1630 this afternoon, at which time we will conduct one more opportunistic RMT (RMT8) before deploying CPR3 (are there enough acronyms in this sentence? Stay tuned: more coming up!). Our next phase of marine science is a day and a half away, with the commencement of the deployment of the WHOI moorings. More about them later… We also had our weekly emergency muster drill today, with all expeditioners outside rugged up in their Antarctic clothing, which finally felt comfortable to wear in the cool conditions. We’ve been given advanced warning of a visit from King Neptune later this evening. Always delightful to see him and his royal retinue again…

Regards, Doug, Aaron & Margaret
