A very busy day yesterday getting the ship ready for departure, and underway just after 1900 local time. Many thanks to all the people who worked so hard to turn the ship around in such a short period of time. Quite a few people remarked on how loaded with cargo we are! We had a pretty good evening at sea, with some of the crew and Marine Science staff working late to ready the RMT (rectangular midwater trawl) for work today. We have seven specific sites at which to conduct RMTs on our way south, as part of a project being undertaken by researchers from the ACE CRC at the University of Tasmania. Our first was completed this morning at 1000, and yielded a decent catch of small beasties… more specifics as we get further south! Some squalls passing quickly over the ship today, with heavy rain associated. All on board travelling well, with a few keen birders out early enjoying our accompanying albatross.
Regards, Doug, Aaron & Margaret
