Comments

We have been grateful for the calm conditions and, once again, many expeditioners were out on deck enjoying the sun yesterday. A pod of whales was sighted in the distance and albatross continue to soar alongside the ship. Last night we were treated to an informative talk by Kym Newbery about the workings of the aerial laser and photography work that was undertaken at Davis station during resupply. Some spectacular images were captured that are as much works of art as scientific data. This morning the ship is experiencing a little more movement since the swell changed direction. However, conditions are forecast to remain relatively comfortable for the day enabling packing and cleaning by expeditioners & crew in preparation for our arrival. It was a strange feeling last night NOT having to change our clocks! A correction from yesterday's sitrep (for all those Queenslanders) we are now on Australian Eastern daylight savings Standard Time. Many faces were seen early this morning with a case of 'the channels', that is the excitement and anticipation of arriving home. This is the final sitrep for Voyage 1 as we are due to berth in Hobart at 0800 hrs tomorrow. Many thanks to the Master and crew of the Aurora Australis and all the inbound and outbound expeditioners for a most enjoyable, safe and productive voyage. Regards, Karin, Sharon & Adam
