Comments

Finally, after much anticipation, we finished crunching through the thick ice and hit the open water yesterday afternoon! There was almost cheering on the bridge and many photos being taken. It felt like we were on the home run in to Davis, and this was corroborated this morning as we rapidly approach the fast-ice edge. We are hoping to fly some expeditioners, that have priority work programs, in to station while we break into the fast-ice to our parking position. However, current weather conditions are not looking promising for this morning. As always, we await weather and ice conditions that will influence our plans from here-on. Social activities on board wrapped up last night with the announcement of the winner of the gym competition being Nigel Coey, closely followed by Chris Gillies in second place. All on board are becoming familiar with the Antarctic catch-phrase 'hurry up and wait' as we wait and watch how the day unfolds.
Regards,
Karin, Sharon & Adam
