Comments

Unfortunately, the cloud did not lift or burn off yesterday, so the day was an anti-climax for our sea-ice scientists on board. We have delivered some more offerings to the Met team and are hoping that today will bring clearer skies. At time of writing, the forecast indicates there may be a window of opportunity later today. We all have our fingers crossed in the hope that this important science project is able to proceed. In other news, the talks program has diminished somewhat due to the extensive briefings taking place in the Theatre. However, the 'Rome' series is still running and the AMISOR talk has been re-scheduled for this evening along with a talk showing 'Helicopter Sea-Ice Photos' by our own Voyage Management Trainee. A Gym competition is currently running to see who can achieve the fastest time on the rowing machine in 2 minutes, and the greatest distance on the recumbent bike on the 'swordtooth track'. People have been handicapped by age, sex, and weight, with the Doctor on board being brought in to determine the biomechanical handicap. This is a very serious competition! Our Communications team have been working hard checking everyone's computers and our Environmental Officer, Barbara Wienecke, has been doing a sterling job overseeing the cleaning of everyone's boots and clothing. Resupply briefings continue today, although will be halted at 1100hrs as we observe Remembrance Day with a song being broadcast over the P.A. system followed by 3 minutes silence. Regards, Karin, Sharon & Adam
