As predicted the wild wind and swell eased in the evening and we woke to relatively calm conditions - 9 knots of wind and a 2-3m swell. Evidently the met crew were satisfied with the bribes paid yesterday! We've notched up the speed in calmer waters and we're currently on a slightly southerly course, hoping to miss the worst of a deepening low to our west.
On the marine science front CPR #2 was retrieved successfully with a good catch, and the third tow for the voyage is underway. Icebergs are popping up regularly now, and the observation roster is set to start later this afternoon.
Field training is back on after a swell-induced rest day, and the much-anticipated karaoke night is happening this evening. Everyone is busily warming up their vocal cords in preparation for the big event.
Meanwhile, movies, card games and bottomless cups of tea continue, and the planning goes ever on...
