The change in weather conditions has driven some expeditioners to their bunks and thinned the crowds at meal-times today, while others are up the bridge relishing the ‘Southern Ocean experience’. Preparations are being made for testing the CTD and Acoustic system on board. This equipment forms part of the Sea-Ice science program to be undertaken in the pack-ice before we reach Davis station. On the social scene, the quiz night was well attended last night, and the cinema program is in full swing. Some charming hats were worn at lunch today as a prelude to the real fashion event tomorrow for Melbourne Cup Day. Horses are being drawn tonight for the sweeps on board. Our days are getting longer as clocks are retarded another hour tonight as we incrementally move to be in sync with Davis station time (6 hours behind AEST) for our arrival next week.

Karin, Sharon & Adam
