Comments

Conditions have remained calm and we were treated to a pod of approximately 20 pilot whales and over 30 dusky dolphins leaping out of the water in front of the ship just after dinner yesterday evening. The Social Committee did a great job with the Halloween decorations, and we celebrated two expeditioners’ birthdays with cakes and candles at dinner. The Continuous Plankton Recorder was deployed at 11:50 (local ship time), 0150 hrs (UTC)this morning. This is a regular scientific program that samples zooplankton, providing information on their distribution patterns, community structure, and abundance. Many planning meetings and field training sessions are being scheduled for the coming week. The talks program kicks off this afternoon with Dr Jan Lieser talking about his Sea-Ice science program, and the Social Committee are hard at work with a quiz night scheduled for this evening. All on board remain well as the calm seas continue.

Regards,
Karin, Sharon & Adam
